OAOHN Annual Conference Tackling Wide Range of Health Issues

Columbus, Ohio, is the location for the 2017 annual conference of the Ohio Association of Occupational Health Nurses (OAOHN), an event taking place Nov. 2-4 at a conference center that is part of the Delaware County Board of Developmental Disabilities. The event is focused on workplace behavioral and cultural issues, with active shooter response, treating opioid overdoses, CPR, and a spirometry refresher course also on the program.

Study Looks at Disparities in Cancer Screening Among Worker Groups

Workers in smaller organizations and in certain industries are screened for cancer less frequently than other groups, according to a recent study from the American Cancer Society. According to a new study, sitting for long periods of time at a single stretch is linked to early death. The study explored the effects of sitting versus moving around and found that it is not only the amount of time spent sitting but also the way in which the total time spent sitting is accumulated throughout the day that counts to affect lifespan detrimentally.

Keeping Older Drivers Safe

Older drivers bring knowledge and experience to the workplace. By 2020, 25 percent of workers in the United States will be 55 or older. But this group is not without risk. According to NIOSH, motor vehicle crashes account for 32 percent of all work-related deaths among workers 55 or older.
