Labor Department Urges Employers to Address Summer Hazards
 As summer heats up, the Department of Labor is urging employers and their workers to address workplace hazards that peak during the season, including heat exposure, falls, trenching and excavation, vehicle safety, electrical safety, workplace violence and risks in agricultural operations.

EPA Approves Bee-killing Pesticide
The EPA has approved the use of a powerful pesticide that the agency's own research determined was lethal to honeybees. Bee pollination is responsible for about a third of the nation's food supply.

OSHA Warns That Some Chemicals May Cause Hearing Loss
Research has shown that exposure to chemicals known as ototoxicants can lead to hearing issues as well as balance problems regardless of noise exposure. These chemicals--which can be found in some solvents, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals--can affect the way the ear functions.

Occupational Health Nurse
Corporate Health Resources (CHR) is seeking an Occupational Health Nurse to perform case management, arrange initial medical appointments for work-related illness/injury, and coordinate the medical surveillance program.
The job is full-time: two days/week in the Southern San Francisco area, 2 days/week in Sunnyvale, and 1 day/week in Redwood City. The company has signed a lease to consolidate all three locations in Southern San Francisco in 2020.

Health-related workplace absenteeism during the 2017-2018 flu season peaked at its highest level in four seasons and surpassed the epidemic threshold in January and February, according to a recently released report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Bipartisan legislation recently introduced in the Senate is aimed at limiting the speed of heavy commercial trucks to 65 mph by requiring new trucks to be equipped with speed-limiting devices.
Stories include rehabilitating workers undergoing cancer treatment, and mental health awareness training for managers.
